Broken custom graphs in trends

Hi all I'm getting some broken "extra" graphs in my trends page and not sure if I've done something wrong or if it's a bug. I'm running v4.3.3 of Xymon on Linux. I've successfully implemented a collector for BIND DNS statistics that injects the data into Xymon using a "TRENDS" message, as detailed in the last section of http://xymon.com/xymon/help/howtograph.html. I have the RRD files being created with valid data, one with multiple DSes, others with a single DS named "lambda". My graphs.cfg file has valid descriptions for things like [bindstats-mismatch] (showing responses with mismatched query IDs). I've deliberately avoided using the existing name "bind". As per the documentation, I appended ",bindstats" to the end of the "GRAPHS and TEST2RRD" values in xymonserver.cfg. I also added "TRENDS:*,bindstats:bindstats|bindstats-breakdown|bindstats-mismatch" in hosts.cfg, so that I get all 3 graphs in the trends page. All three are defined in graphs.cfg, with two using "FNPATTERN" and the other explicitly naming the files. My trends page shows the three graphs I've defined. But it also shows three more broken graphs after each functioning one. The IMG URI for all four appears identical except for the "first=" value. The first graph has in its URL "first=1", the second shows "first=4", the third shows "first=7" and the last shows "first=10". All of them have "count=3" in the URI. It seems like this is designed to show a multi-graph with many data sets, split into several groups of 3. But as there's only one data set, there's nothing to show for "first=4" (and subsequent graphs) and so rrgraph bails. Can anyone suggest something I've missed or a way to get this to only show one of each graph on the trends page? Cheers Jeremy

dispinclude and 4.3.7

I recently started using 4.3.7 and have discovered that the dispinclude directive in hosts.cfg doesn't appear to be working. I had to change all the dispinclude's to plain include's before any of my custom page sets would show up. Thanks, Larry Barber

how to add a specific http timeout

I've been looking at setting one of our systems to have a different timeout on the http test to the default 10 seconds. I've followed the instructions from Henrik, > 1) Add the "--test-untagged" option to your current xymonnet command in tasks.cfg > > 2) Add "NET:slowtests" to this particular host in hosts.cfg > > 3) In a script, set XYMONNETWORK="slowtests" (remember to export it!) and then run the xymonnet command to do the test of this one host, with the different --timeout option > > 4) Add a new section to tasks.cfg to run the test script. Yet it's not working. multiple alerts for single process

Has anyone been successful at something like this? I am monitoring a process where there should be at least 1 running but no more than 1. These processes are running on a windows server (BBWin 0.12) and reporting back to my Xymon server (4.3.0) on Ubuntu (10.04). Easy (analysis.cfg): HOST=reallycoolserver PROC galaxy_hitch_guide.exe 1 1 red Ok, so on occasion some special people will run an additional process manually and this happens often and is acceptable. So, I would like the alert above to have an initial duration of say 240 prior to alerting. Easy (alerts.cfg): HOST=reallycoolserver MAIL me at here.com DURATION>240 REPEAT=30 FORMAT=TEXT STOP So, this seems all well and good except in 2 other cases: - If another monitored process on reallycoolserver fails, it will also be delayed 240 minutes. - If an unacceptable condition with coolthing.exe such as 20 of them running. So, I thought that GROUPS would be the way to go: Analysis.cfg: HOST=reallycoolserver PROC galaxy_hitch_guide.exe 1 20 red GROUP=fish HOST=reallycoolserver PROC galaxy_hitch_guide.exe 1 1 red GROUP=pints Alerts.cfg: HOST=reallycoolserver GROUP=fish MAIL me at here.com DURATION>5 REPEAT=10 FORMAT=TEXT GROUP=fish STOP HOST=reallycoolserver GROUP=pints MAIL me at here.com DURATION>240 REPEAT=10 FORMAT=TEXT GROUP=pints STOP I have tried to arrange these in a variety of ways: - A single HOST entry in analysis.cfg with the same proc defined twice as above. The color will change correctly but the alerts do not behave right. - A group only entry in alerts.cfg - Using EXGROUP following the HOST entry to exclude one of the groups - Using EXGROUP following the MAIL entry to exclude one of the groups Any ideas? I've been having a problem when different subpages and subparents share an identifier (under different parents, of course). It seems the pages all render correctly, but the search capability doesn't work correctly. The search will always go to the first page in hosts.cfg that has the duplicate name. Oddly enough, this doesn't seem to occur when the duplicate name is the last in the chain. There is, of course, an easy work around for this, but it is rather difficult not to reuse page names in a large installation (production, development, test, etc.). Thanks, Larry Barber

Uuencoded file atached to xymon status update message

Xymon client and clientupdate Issue

Hello Henrik, thank you for the new client /local/ directory for custom scripts. It is a lot more comfortable to manage many xymon-clients from central now. Clientupdate pulls our scripts to this directory. They pull hosts.cfg, protocols.cfg and other configfiles and generate configfiles with varios variables (XYMONNETWORK,CONFIGCLASS, etc) and write it to xymoncient.d directory. I just had to change some small details to make it work: - client/clientupdate.c symbolic link $XYMONHOME/etc get overwritten and recreated as a directory. Occured on ubuntu 11.04 and newer. -> Change the tar option from "xf -" to "xfh -" helps me. - debian/init-common.sh make directories /etc/xymon and /usr/lib/xymon writabe for xymon user. - add line "directory /etc/xymon/xymonclient.d" to client/xymonclient.cfg. - add line "directory /etc/xymon/clientlaunch.d" to client/clientlaunch.cfg. - add the xymonnet binary to $XYMONHOME/bin directory. We use this to distribute/move network tests to clients just by setting XYMONNETWORK: tags in hosts.cfg on xymon-server. - and a few others... Attatchement: diff to xymon 4.3.7 revision 6803. Feature request: CLIENT-LOCAL.CFG - combine hosts and ostype definitions

In CLIENT-LOCAL.CFG told: "When deciding which section to send to a client, Xymon will first look for a section named after the hostname of the client; if such a section does not exist, it will look for a section named by the operating system of the client. So you can configure special configurations for individual hosts, and have a default configuration for all other hosts of a certain type." It would be very usefull to be possible to merge both host and OS type log files, etc definitions. There are files present on any host of each type such as OS logs: /var/log/messages etc. And in most cases we need to monitor them. And there are also host-specific files, for example DB/APP logs - that we define for each host. Since I had added per-host entry - my log files defined by OS type - not checked anymore. But we need it!. I know - it is easy to just add another lne to host definition, but it would be nice possibility to merge definitions already done for OS-type.
