Include transfer of file contents to Xymon server for FILE check

On the server I currently have a simple check to see if this file exists. I know if this file exists that there is a power outage somewhere. HOST=host.imaginenetworksllc.com FILE /opt/noticeofpowerfailure red noexist What I would like to do is include the contents of said text file to the server so when I click on the status it shows up in my browser. some data isn't stored in RRDs unless --debug option used for rrd-data, rrd-status workers

Not sure if this is a bug or just something weird in our environment, but I've run into a situation where some bits of data aren't being stored in their RRD files, causing small & big gaps in the trend charts. However, if I add the --debug switch to the rrd-data and rrd-status workers in the tasks.cfg file, the problem seems goes away. Has anyone else observed this? I'm running xymon 4.37, rrdtool-1.2.27, and the OS is centos 5.7 with kernel 2.6.18-274.17.1.el5PAE. I'll be glad to provide more details, back traces, etc. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Tom

Xymon Internal Server Error

Greetings all, I have Xymon 4.3.5 running on redhat 5. It has been working fine for quite some time. Around 3am this morning, the webpages display "internal Server error". I looked at the apache logs and Xymon logs and do not see anything that is wrong or that could be causing this. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Kapildev Khemraj

Integrating tools with Xymon

bbhostgrep --no-down and dialup hosts

Hi list, Not sure if this has been asked before but I couldn't find anything in the archives and there is nothing in the MAN page... We're running 4.2.3 so I'll be speaking in old hobbit filenames. We have a number of development servers that we want to monitor when they are online, but it is not essential that they are always online, so they are flagged with the "dialup" flag in bb-hosts. We have some external scripts which use bbhostgrep to poll bb-hosts to determine which hosts to run the tests on. This is fine when they are online, but when a dialup host goes offline it's status goes "clear". "bbhostgrep --no-down" seems to include "clear" conn hosts in the list of hosts to test so the test still get attempted against a host which is now no longer online. Without having to code in extra ping checks into our scripts am I missing something? or is this a bug. I would have expected "bbhostgrep --no-down" to return only non-RED conn hosts. Thanks Steve

Clients fail to show up in monitor

Has anyone seen this before? Client does not move from Ghost Client to normal views and no data is recorded Background INFO: XYMON Ver 4.3.5 Client XP, BBWin_0.12 I have a systems not showing any data, all test show up as "-" . I do see the client in Ghost Clients and it shows beside it in the "Candidate" side the system I placed in the host.cfg file so it does look to be matching but it never locks on. Just remains in GhostClients. No data is collected in the /data areas and I am not seeing any logs in hostd.log that may say why it is not latching on to the client. Here is the different views and corresponding data. Xymon client only reports once

I've installed Xymon on my home network as testing for a possible installation at work. It's working fine on three out of the four systems, but on the fourth, the client only reports its status to the server once, immediately after being started. The problem computer is a Pentium MMX with 48MB RAM, running Gentoo Linux. It looks as if the client is getting hung in the process of sending the second report: "ps aux" shows a sleeping "xymonlaunch" process, and the XYMONTMP directory contains a "xymon_vmstat" file with a timestamp five minutes after the successful update. I could probably work around this with cron job to restart the client every five minutes, but I'd rather fix it properly. Any suggestions on what might be going wrong, or other things I could look at? Thanks, Mark Wagner
