Xymond and xymonnet quirks

After getting the latest Xymon 4.3.4 finally working on CentOS 6 64-bit, I'm seeing a few quirks that I'd appreciate some input on. First, under Xymonnet tests, it's alerting Yellow because the time spent is too long (over 300). The culprit is DNS tests executed taking over 340 itself.. Can anyone shed some light on this? I know I saw some other threads about putting in a --no-ares but I wanted to see if there was something else I might be missing before I change the functionality of the tests.. Next, under Xymond, I'm getting a ton of multiple statuses reports for CONN tests. I can't seem to find a clear archive of what would cause that other than having both IP's listed when you have 2 display servers.. Both servers reference each other as a client and in xymonserver.cfg.. Hi, I install xymon collector server and agent in the same machine. Apache server is running in the same server. Now I start collector server and agent both. After that I am trying to open web page with: http://19x.xxx.xxx.xxx/xymon/index.html I am getting following error: *Forbidden* You don't have permission to access /xymon/index.html on this server. ------------------------------ *Apache/2.2.3 (Red Hat) Server at 19x.xxx.xxx.xxx Port 80* Kindly let me know how can I resolved this problem? IPv6 support in xymon

Hi I'm brand new to this list, so hopefully this has not already been done to death. We are deploying IPv6 across our organisation (spread across Australia) and use xymon for a lot of our monitoring. We have scripts which allow xymon to ping hosts via IPv6 to monitor IPv6 connectivity although it is a bit ugly. I understand that IPv6 support is coming in a later release. I'm curious whether there is an estimate of when this might come out. Also, I just hit an issue with some Windows systems that run BBwin. They were complaining that they could not talk to the xymon server. The problem turned out to be that clients were configured with the DNS name of the xymon server and the server had both an A record (IPv4 address) and a AAAA record (IPv6 address) in DNS. The operating system chooses the IPv6 address first and BBWin was trying to contact the server using IPv6. The server responded with a RST and the communication failed. The client did not fail back to IPv4. The workaround I am planning on doing is to have a separate DNS name for the server just for xymon use (the server does various things) which only has an IPv4 address in DNS until xymon supports server communication over IPv6. I don't want to hardcode the IPv4 address on the clients as that would make it harder to change later. In August, Josh Luthman suggested that most uses of xymon would be dual stack so would not need IPv6 support. I completely agree that most people are going to be using dual-stack for the foreseeable future, but wanted to point out that we want to be able to monitor our IPv6 network as well as our IPv4 network so IPv6 support is important. In a dual stack environment, IPv6 is used in preference, but if there is a problem with IPv6 connectivity systems will normally fail back to IPv4. This can hide IPv6 network problems. As a result it is important to monitor IPv6 and IPv4 independently otherwise you may not know you have a problem. Also as indicated above, having IPv6 support on the server means we can avoid ugly kludges. My 2c worth. Change default RRD graph definitions

Hello, I'm looking to change the graph definitions for one of the built-in checks e.g. [http]. The default creation method for the RRD graphs is "average", but I want to display the "last" value instead. The graphs.cfg file has this to create http graphs: [http] DEF:p at RRDIDX@=@RRDFN@:sec:*AVERAGE* LINE2:p at RRDIDX@#@COLOR@:@RRDPARAM@ GPRINT:p at RRDIDX@:AVERAGE: \: %5.1lf%s (avg) What needs to be done to change the existing graphs on the system to display *LAST* instead? 4.3.7: Purple combotest evaluating to 1

Hi, I have a combotest where 1 of the checks being purple is evaluating to 1, which is different behaviour than previous versions, I believe – did I miss a patch for this? (server1.check.tao+server2.check.tao)==1 = (1+1)==1 = 0 - first check is purple, second is green… Help! I was trying this on 4.3.7 on Ubuntu 10.04.4 and it didn't seem to work. The host I had configured with a NET: tag was still tested. Is this a bug? Jeremy

xymon local client not working

Hi, I'm trying to get the xymon 4.3.7 version to compile a local client by running: configure.client I answer client to the question server or client. After all the other answers I run: make -s (like suggested). It does run okay for the rest. When I start the bin/xymoncmd and then bin/xymonclient.sh by hand it sends the status to the server. When I compile the whole package(server and client) in SERVER config mode it's work fine. So only not in the local client config. Also found out the version 4.2.3 and older work okay with the local client config. After this version the compile problems began an the local client doesn't work anymore. I'm running CentOS 6.2 x64 and installed all dependencies (pcre, pcre-devel, openssl, openssl-devel, openldap, openldap-devel, rrdtool, rrdtool-devel, gcc, make). It's not an option to compile the server client and then change the settings to local because the xymond_client is not compiled then. Is the local client config suppose to work in the latest version? Maybe I'm doing something wrong so any help is appreciated. Regards, Frederik Reenders

custom graphs problem

Hi All, After half a day searching for the problem, why my custom graph for my test isn't showing properly in xymon, I'm reaching out to you guys. I have googled quite a bit but none of the explanations and/or suggestions (which I all tried) are working for me. It is probably something stupid I'm missing or doing wrong but I'm not able to put my finger on it. False Alarm

Hello, Since last Thuesday, we encourter false alarms on procs and disk tests. It seems as real alarms are attributed to a wrong hostname because in the attached data, we see that the xymon agent process is configured for an other hostname.
