Incorrect CPU %

I'm seeing strange CPU percentages on different windows 2008 servers. Patch - fix for zoom icon when no graph

Hello, I mentioned before about how some status pages show no graph but do show the small magnifying glass zoom icon (http://lists.xymon.com/pipermail/xymon/2012-March/034158.html ) I have looked at the code about this, and I can see it is not a simple task to prevent the icon from appearing when their is no graph. Unfortunately the graph is handled in one part of the code, and the icon is just a simple bit of HTML to show the icon image. The two are not related in any way, so it is not possible to just say "if there's no RRD file then don't show the icon". However, there is one place in the code where the URL containing the graph and icon is passed through deeper into the code. By changing the URL at this point neither the graph nor icon will appear when required. To do this I have created two variables in xymonserver.cfg that the user can adjust as required. One variable specifies the test names that use the TRACK option (so 'files', 'procs' and 'ports'). The second variable is empty by default, but can contain a <hostname.<test> pair such as 'server1.procs'. The code will check if such a pair has been set for the host/test being checked, and if so then the graph will be shown. So by default no graphs are shown for the 'files', 'procs' and 'ports' tests until the user uses a TRACK option, and modifies the new settings. Some 'wildcarding' is possible. To return to the previous behaviour of all graphs being shown, just set the TRACKEDTESTS option to "". To show the (for example) 'procs' graphs for all hosts, just remove 'procs' from the TRACKEDTESTS option. To show all the graphs for a particular host use something like 'server1.*' (where 'server1' is the hostname). I'm not entirely happy with this fix, but it does seem to work. If there are a lot of hosts then the variables could get large in size. There is no accurate check of the host/test pair, in that they are not specifically delimited. (I was thinking of a space-separated list but ensuring that the list starts and ends with a space is awkward.) So, for example, the pair 'abc.procs' would match 'server-abc.procs'. The code uses trees for some of its structures, and I took a very quick look to see if maybe something could be included in there when a TRACKed option was used. That would probably be better. Attached are the patches, use them if you wish. Only 2 files provide the code (which admittedly is only a small change), the rest are documentation (the man pages and html pages, installed analysis.cfg etc). In fact, scrap that - it breaks more than that, but xymongen does not crash. It breaks WML generation, page/subpage background colours, the nongreen page and the first column specified in the list to compact disappears and the others go green even if they were yellow or red before. I have this line in my host.cfg: 0.0.0.0 .default. # COMPACT:status=conn,info Without the COMPACT statement the hosts.cfg file works fine. Can't have COMPACT working

Hello, I'm trying to use the "COMPACT" feature on Xymon 4.3.0-0.beta2 without success. In the bb-host file, I tried: 0.0.0.0 .default. # COMPACT:status=conn,info and also: 192.168.0.2 esxi # COMPACT:status=conn,info ssh But this doesn't work as expected. In both case, the "conn" and "info" columns are still there and a "status" column never appears. Did I miss something ? TIA, Jo

Hello, I’ve got it managed to create a workaround for our company. This contains some steps: 1) i decided to add specific tags to the hosts.cfg file (i.e. “PT” for telnet, “PS” for ssh, “PR” for rdp, “HT” for http, “HS” for https – just my idea to identify “my” options….) 2) i created a script which walks through the hosts.cfg, looks for those option tags and creates “per-host-specific” html files, which are placed in the server/www/notes/ directory - these files contain the protocol specific connect URL as shown in the screenshots: a. for PuTTY [cid:image002.png at 01CD05C1.69825AB0] b. for RDP / RDP console: [cid:image003.png at 01CD05C1.69825AB0] c. for https: [cid:image004.png at 01CD05C1.69825AB0] 3) i did that for any of “my” protocol tags; depending on “my” tags, the script creates more than one protocol entry 4) i added the specific protocol handler to the registry and I’m using a special compiled putty version to accept a “%1” parameter in the command line 5) Disadvantage: you cannot use another “notes” page any longer The above sounds very confusing, but for our company it’s working. How about if you use the built-in "info" button in Xymon? Look at the HOSTS.CFG manpages, specifically: DESCR:Hosttype:Description Define some informational text about the host. The "Hosttype" is a text describing the type of this device - "router", "switch", "hub", "server" etc. The "Description" is an informational text that will be shown on the "Info" column page; this can e.g. be used to store information about the physical location of the device, contact persons etc. If the text contain whitespace, you must enclose it in double-quotes, e.g. DESCR:"switch:4th floor Marketing switch" You may add html code to the DESCR field, and your browser will make it "clickable". I think you're wanting something like the following: (hosts.cfg) 192.168.1.24 servername.co.com<http://servername.co.com> # DESCR:"Web Server:description <a href=ssh:192.168.1.24>ssh</a>" The above entry inside hosts.cfg would add a link of ssh:192.168.1.24 to the "info" button associated with that host in Xymon.
