Hi henrik, In the man, i read : "The "ncv" module will automatically detect all occurrences of a "NAME : value" or "NAME = value" string in a status message, and generate an RRD file holding all of the name/value data found in the message. The colon- or equal-sign must be present - if there is only whitespace, this module will fail." What's happening for me : my mysql status returns everything on the same line : "Uptime: 27244454 Threads: 1 Questions: 111315527 Slow queries: 322 Opens: 335380 Flush tables: 1 Open tables: 63 Queries per second avg: 4.086" adding NCV_mysql="Uptime:GAUGE" returns 4.086 instead of 27244454 did i do something wrong or is this status incompatible with ncv ? First thing you need to do is check your web server error logs, this kind thing is usually caused by a problem in your web server setup or file systems permissions. I imagine you use expect and a script on the client itself, and just telnet to localhost. We have some apps like that also, and that was our solution. I know it would be nice to do it from the server, but it still achieves the goal. It would be nice to be able to handle such a dialogue style of network testing, but that is not possible with the current network tester. Setting up test in bb-services

Hi, I've been duplicating a number of the tests that we ran in Big Brother through external scripts in the bb-services config file. One of these old perl test files opened up a telnet session and navigates through some menus to confirm the application is running. The application is crap and needs to pause between each command otherwise the session remains open. Is there a way to pause for a length of time as this app doesn't seem to cache the commands? Here is what I've been trying test with in the bb-services. histlog issue for large sites

Hi, until now, i haven't did much cleaning in my histlogs, (i'll have to play with the trimhistory command) basicly i would like to keep as much history as i can afford. i have over 1 million files in my histlogs on my production bb server, and just realized that i'm over 50% of used inodes (which could become of probleme in less that a year in my case, soi'll plan to newfs that partition to have more inodes..) henrik : have you thought of managing the histlogs another way ? (from my user point of view, i'ld need to have recent history (less that 30 days) quickly available; older history (over 30 days) is less important but i would still like to have it online...) -- Olivier Beau

performance issue with multiple pagesets

Hi Henrik, i loaded hobbit 4.0.5RC1 on my standby server (which isn't as fast as my production bbgen3.5 server..) i'm having lots of iowait, (it isn't swapping), i suspect it's bbgen i have 8 pagesets, and my hobbit/www directory is over 20M... and generating all that every minute (sshhh.. i know..) i'm using most of my pagesets only for the bb2.html, and i am not using the bb.html page at all. here's what is looks for my unix pageset : [root at bigbrother-stdby www]# ls -lh unix/ total 2.0M -rw-r--r-- 1 bb-dev alert 94K Jul 20 16:22 bb2.html -rw-r--r-- 1 bb-dev alert 1.8M Jul 20 16:22 bb.html -rw-r--r-- 1 bb-dev alert 519 Jul 20 16:22 bbnk.html lrwxrwxrwx 1 bb-dev alert 7 Jul 20 16:07 index.html -> bb.html [root at bigbrother-stdby www]# --> Is there a way to disable the generating of the bb.html page for pagesets ? -- Olivier Beau

Acknowledging & Enable/Disable Permissions

In our quest for a more distributed environment, we have a need to allow a select group of users the ability to acknowledge alerts, but do NOT want to give those users the ability to enable/disable any of the services. It appears that a given userID/password will allow both. Is there any way we can restrict this to disallow the enable/disable ability for some but not all? Thank you. Failover Servers

I have two Hobbit servers with the intent of using one as a failover server. Each is set up to monitor the same hosts. They differ in how the Hobbit servers themselves are defined. Within the primary server I have "# BBDISPLAY BBPAGER BBNET bbd http://primary-server" for the primary server and nothing additional for the failover. Within the failover server I have "# BBDISPLAY BBPAGER BBNET bbd http://failover-server" for the failover server and nothing additional for the primary. (Yes, I did simplify the names for purpose of illustration.) Both servers sit outside of a firewall and monitor servers on each side of the firewall. When either server is up and the other down everything is fine. Or, if both servers are up and I modify their bb-hosts file so that they don't know of each other, everything is fine as well. However, when both servers are up and one knows of the other it's a different story. The "conn" column for the monitored servers that reside behind the firewall goes red, even though I can still successfully ping those servers. These fluctuate between red and green about every minute. I'm at a loss as to what to do. A couple of months ago it was mentioned that a detailed walk-through of how to setup two Hobbit servers existed (Brian Lynch?). Is this document available for downloading or does anyone have any thoughts as to how to solve this? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you. Ce paramètre est défini dans le script "configure" de hobbit. Il faut donc recompiler hobbit. This parameter is in the configure script that comes with the hobbit source archive. You need to recompile hobbit.
