Hi Is there a way to select specific data from a client like in sql? select proc from <client_name> where name=<process_name> one way could be something like ./hobbitd_client --dump-config --test disk|grep <some_thing> How could data be presentet on the hobbitpage by using *bb-webpage?* -- mvh mogens busk mob at rcf.dk

Graphs stop update 24 hours after client reboot; start again 24 hours later.

Hi all, I need some help/suggestions to figure out why my "cpu load" and "users & processes" graphs stop updating about 24 hours after the systems reboot. The updates stop for anywhere from 12 to 24 hours, then simply start back up again. Only the "CPU load" and the "Users and Processes" graphs are having the problem; disk, memory, cpu utilization, network traffic don't miss a beat. We have a number of identically configured systems, they all reboot around 00:30 local time (they are in different time zones) Wednesday mornings. And they all stop reporting cpu-load/users-and-processes graphs sometime Thursday mornings and then start up again Thursday afternoon/Friday morning. They don't all stop/start at exactly the same time, but the majority do stop/start at the same time. I end up with about a 24 hour gap in my graphs every week. cgi-bin URL issues in 4.3.0-beta1

I have two issues with the handling of cgi-bin in 4.3.0-beta1: 1) the cgi URL is ignored. Answering anything to this question: What is the URL for the Xymon CGI directory [/xymon-cgi] ? (Note: This is the URL - NOT the filesystem directory) will put the result into /home/hobbit/server/etc/hobbit-apache.conf i.e. ScriptAlias /whatever/ "/var/www/cgi-bin/xymon/" However, the actual URL used in the running system remains http://myhost.com/xymon/cgi-bin/bb-hostsvc.sh?... ^^^^^^^^^^^^^ should have been /whatever/ Workaround: put the ScriptAlias before the Alias directives in the hobbit-apache.conf file. 2) the cgi URL is inconsistent. For some of the cgi-bin scripts, 'cgi-bin' is appended to the URLs, yielding references to: /xymon/cgi-bin/cgi-bin/bb-snapshot.sh was not found on this server. Where is the extra /cgi-bin coming from? Thanks, Wendell

Securing Xymon Over Internet

Hi XyMonsters! I need to monitor several satellite sites with XyMon. These sites are not available on our local LAN so I have to go via the internet. I am a bit hesitant to open the ports etc since the information collected can be used in foot printing the system. How would I go about securing the service so that xymons information does not fall into the wrong hands? Regards Neil

sorry, because i ask a lot of questions...! this time i don' get an email when a status goes into critical state. i installed mailutils package, and nothing have changed. but i haven't configured my mailing server yet. do you think that i should configure it then the mailing will take place, or i should do something else?! and thanks a lot... :-)

Problem doing hobbit configuration (nuby alert)

The documentation for getting Xymon up and running needs work -- little variations in the process can break things and leave you no information on what is broken! I've setup a Xymon server and ~10 clients. After setting up the server, I usually followed this process for getting the (all Linux) clients up: 1. On the client, as root, I did 'useradd -u 501 -g 501 xymon' to get the userID into /etc/passwd and create /home/xymon. 2. As xymon, I exploded the xymon tarball, did a './configure --client' and a 'make'. No errors of significance were reported. 3. As root, I did 'make install' to create the /home/xymon/client directory. 4. As xymon, I did '~/client/runclient.sh start' to get the client running. 5. On the server, added 'IP host # ssh' to the bb-hosts file and restarted Xymon. After a while, the new client would be added to the main page of Xymon with the following tests would be filled in: * conn, cpu, disk, files, info, memory, msgs, ports, procs, ssh, trends Recently, I tried doing #5 *before* doing 2, 3, and 4. Awhile after doing #5 (but before #2), the main page would update on the server with the new client, but only the 'conn', 'files', 'info', 'ssh', and 'trends' columns were filled in. After doing 2, 3, and 4 on the client, I again restarted Xymon, but the other columns (cpu, disk, memory, msgs, procs, ports) refused to be filled in. Digging into this, I can't find anything in any of the logs of all my systems (working or not) to give me a clue on how these tests run and why they are not running on some systems. These tests are not listed as tests that you enter in bb-hosts, so can anyone explain how to get these other tests running against the clients?
