You could change it in your xymonserver.cfg file, but that will mean all of your browser links will change also. This may not be desirable. An alternative might be to inject a stream editor between Xymon and your mail client. For instance, set MAIL like so: MAIL="sed 's/narfy/192.168.1.40/' | $MAILC -s" I haven't tested this, but many have used a similar technique for modifying their email alerts, for example, stripping newlines, as mentioned here: http://lists.xymon.com/archive/2013-March/037159.html Cheers Jeremy

Regional Servers to Central

Hey, I'm pretty sure this has been done (is possible). I'd like to change my setup to have regional Xymon servers that communicate to a central server. I know this is possible but...I can't open a connection back to the central server and have to use msgcache for my clients currently. Is it possible to set up the regional servers such that my central server manages the alerting and lets me see the remote servers using msgcache (or some other xymon server config that can use msgcache-like config)? I've attached a diagram for what I hope to do. If you can point me to a doc/web page, that would work to. thanks =G= Note: the dotted box is what I have today.

Hi I have today committed v2.15. This has a big, new feature that we've been working on internally for some time and testing in our environment, that is, external scripts and external data. As far as is possible, I have replicated the BBWin functionality for external data. Data files in the 'externaldatalocation' directory (installdir\tmp by default) with the correct file format will be uploaded to Xymon. You can therefore run external scripts, have them produce status data files in the correct format and that will be uploaded. The format is the same as BBWin and that described in 'Xymon Message Syntax' on this page: http://xymon.sourceforge.net/xymon/help/manpages/man1/xymon.1.html. The sample scripts supplied with BBWin, e.g. fsmon.vbs, should work without material changes (fsmon for example looks in the registry for a couple of locations of folders, this may need changing if you have never installed BBWin). You can now also specify external scripts in client-local.cfg to be run either every scan or every "slow" scan, and they can be sent to run synchronously or asynchronously - therefore a relatively simple external script scheduler. The scripts can either pre-exist on the target or they can be downloaded from a central web server or file share (like client updates). Script versioning is controlled via hashes - this has also been extended to client updates (optionally). Obviously the use of external scripts requires some care - for example, if you specify synchronous execution and your script never completes, XymonPSClient will be left waiting forever. If you specify asynchronous and your script never completes, you can end up with multiple processes building up over time. It's quite difficult to work out what may be happening with external scripts if you do not have any form of logging in your script, just as it would be with BBWin - therefore if you're having trouble, I recommend logging to file at various points in your script and the start and end of execution. Note that external scripts will be run as the same user as XymonPSClient, which would usually be the LOCAL SYSTEM user. You can test whether your script works as LOCAL SYSTEM interactively using psexec (e.g. psexec -i -s cmd.exe), from the sysinternals process utilities (https://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/sysinternals/psexec) I have updated the XymonPSClient.doc which has a section on external scripts and data - please read this carefully first as there are a number of options associated with these new features. I will try and answer any questions about scheduling and external data configuration, but I can't commit to answering questions about or debugging your individual scripts. Zak

Hi Zak, Just wanted to say the new externals functionality is awesome and makes everything easier, I have converted one of my PowerShell scripts to write the file in the expected format using the HASH and HASHVALUE and it all works as expected - very cool. I wanted to see if I could get a PowerShell script to run without specify HASH and HASHVALUE, the example in the documentation of external:everyscan:sync:fsmon.vbs doesn't seem to work for .ps1 scripts, I assume because you need to use the powershell.exe process to call the script. In the documentation it says this "If PROCESS is used, HASH, HASHVALUE and ARGUMENTS must be specified. " but I decided to try it anyway without specifying them and it seems to work fine, here is an example: external:everyscan:sync:test.ps1|powershell.exe|-file "{script}" So the documentation doesn't seem to be completely clear on how you run a PowerShell script without the HASH and HASHVALUE specified. Hello, Could you explain to me what location can I put a custom script in Xymon configuration. We have few issues with our Xymon dashboard. 1 - the Find command doesn't find server requested. 2 - Can Xymon generate alert for servers with IPv6 enabled. 3- Can Xymon monitor Tomcat process? 4-Can Xymon generate Windows servers uptime? 5-Can Xymon generate alerts for defunct process in Redhat. I have Hobbit Monitor 4.2.0 running on Solaris 10 monitoring about 25 Solaris 10 servers and need to add some Oracle Linux 6u7 servers. I am using just the Main View and Notification (including emails). What is the latest (best) client for OL 6u7 with Hobbit Monitor 4.2.0 on Solaris 10? Which config file and where? > Are you trying to use "log:" or "linecount:"? For what attributes are you trying to set thresholds? Perhaps you could share your configuration? To be honest, xymon-rclient is primarily to collect the basic instrumentation available for CPU, memory, disk usage and the like, that would otherwise be collected by the Xymon client installed on the box, if it were possible to do so. Other features, like those that are configured in client-local.cfg, are less likely to be fully support. Cheers Jeremy
